AcuSurgical appoints new CEO and Chairman of the Board
Montpellier, France – [8th October 2024] – AcuSurgical, a pioneering company in the field of surgical robotics, is pleased to announce the appointment of Ronen Castro as Chief Executive Officer and Didier Deltort as Chairman of the Board of Directors. These key leadership appointments mark a new chapter in AcuSurgical's mission to revolutionize vitreoretinal surgery with precision robotics.
Ronen Castro brings over two decades of leadership experience in the medical device industry. Most recently, he served as CEO of Human Xtensions, where he led the commercialization of HandX®, an FDA and CE-approved laparoscopic robotic system. Prior to that, he spent 10 years as CEO of IOPtima, a developer of surgical ophthalmic lasers and pharmaceuticals, which was acquired by Chengdu Kanghong Pharmaceuticals in 2018. Ronen has founded two medical device companies and serves as a director on the boards of other health tech companies. His track record of successfully bringing early-stage medical innovations to market positions him as the ideal leader for AcuSurgical's next phase of growth.
Didier Deltort, the newly appointed Chairman of the Board, is currently a Senior Advisor at several Venture Capital and Private Equity firms. With over 30 years of global experience in healthcare technology, Didier has held leadership roles at GE Healthcare, Zimmer Biomet, Boston Scientific, and HP Inc. At GE Healthcare, he spearheaded innovations in diagnostic imaging and patient monitoring, while at Zimmer Biomet, he led the EMEA region, overseeing the marketing, sales, and distribution of musculoskeletal products, including surgical robotics solutions. His extensive expertise in managing complex healthcare organizations and innovation programs will help guide AcuSurgical through its expansion.
Christoph Spuhler, founder of AcuSurgical and former CEO has been the driving force behind the company’s rapid development and technological innovation since its foundation in 2020. He will continue in a key leadership role focusing on driving innovation and overseeing the development of next-generation products for the company’s flagship robotic platform, Luca.
Michael Brownell, former chairman of the company will remain a senior advisor to AcuSurgical.
