Solventum named Ryan Egeland as its chief medical officer on Thursday.
Egeland, a plastic and reconstructive surgeon who has worked for large medtech firms and startups, will focus on identifying innovation and market expansion opportunities. He will report to Chris Barry, president of medical surgical at Solventum, the medical device business that spun out of 3M in April.
Barry touted Egeland’s experience “in the research lab, operating room, and executive settings” in a Thursday statement.
Egeland is the former CEO and co-founder of Crossfire Medical, a startup making devices to treat chronic venous insufficiency. Before that, Barry was chief medical officer and vice president of strategic ventures for Cardiovascular Systems, which makes devices to remove plaque from arteries and was acquired by Abbott last year.
Egeland also worked for Medtronic and its subsidiary Covidien.
Solventum built its leadership team ahead of the spinoff, bringing in Bryan Hanson from Zimmer Biomet as chief executive, Insulet’s Wayde McMillan as CFO, and Barry, the former CEO of Nuvasive.
The new company plans to share its strategic plan in its fourth-quarter earnings call.
