Name: Ronald Silverman
New title: Chief medical officer, BD
Previous title: Chief medical officer, 3M Health Care
Ronald Silverman has left 3M three months after the company installed a new leader at its health business. Silverman has taken up the equivalent position at BD.
In September, 3M installed former Zimmer Biomet CEO Bryan Hanson as the head of its health unit, which is set to become an independent business in the first half of next year. At the time, Silverman was CMO at 3M Health Care. Silverman joined the company in 2020 and took over as CMO in 2021.
Now, Silverman is leaving 3M for BD. Silverman will report to Beth McCombs, executive vice president and chief technology officer.
"Ron's broad expertise and passion for innovation, evidence generation, clinical development, real-world evidence, medical safety, and compliance will help BD build upon our exciting innovation pipeline and promote better outcomes for patients and providers by enabling increasingly efficient, effective and personalized care," McCombs said in the Tuesday statement.
Silverman will replace William Sigmund as CMO of BD. In June, Sigmund, who has served as CMO since the start of 2018, told BD he planned to retire.
The departure of Silverman removes part of the leadership team at 3M’s Health Care unit. 3M recently revealed the name the company will take, Solventum, after it spins off to become an independent organization under the leadership of Hanson next year.
