Name: Dave Rosa
New title: President, Intuitive Surgical
Previous title: Executive vice president and chief strategy and growth officer, Intuitive Surgical
Intuitive Surgical, the market leader in robotic surgery, has promoted Dave Rosa to the position of president, the company announced Tuesday.
The 27-year company veteran most recently was executive vice president and chief strategy and growth officer, and has held leadership roles in engineering, clinical development, marketing and product development.
Rosa will lead Intuitive’s product, digital, quality, regulatory, supply chain, manufacturing, and commercial teams.
Intuitive’s da Vinci surgical robot dominates the market for robotic surgery.
Intuitive CEO Gary Guthart held the title of president prior to Rosa’s appointment. Guthart will continue as the company’s CEO and on its board, focusing on Intuitive’s presence in the market, its overall strategy, governance, and culture, as well as nurturing early-stage business and product initiatives. Guthart also has been with Intuitive for 27 years, and has served as CEO since 2010.
“Aligning our core business functions under Dave, a proven and outstanding leader with broad and deep experience across Intuitive, equips us to meet future opportunities to collaborate with hospitals and healthcare systems to address healthcare challenges at significant scale,” Guthart said in a statement.
The company also announced that Bob DeSantis will assume the newly created role of executive vice president and chief strategy and corporate operations officer, leading strategic planning, operational structure and management. DeSantis previously was Intuitive’s executive vice president and chief product officer.
Intuitive last month reported a 26% increase in da Vinci procedures as hospitals cleared their backlog of cases built up during the COVID-19 pandemic.
