Surgical robotics company CMR Surgical has named Supratim Bose as chief executive officer, taking over from Per Vegard Nerseth and effective immediately, the company said in a statement.

Bose, who has held senior executive positions at Johnson & Johnson, Boston Scientific and ConvaTec, joined CMR in February as a senior adviser to the CEO, leading commercial operations across Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

He will now oversee the global rollout of the Versius surgical robotic system, as the company moves to further commercialize that business. CMR said that more than 100 Versius robotic systems have been installed in over 20 markets around the world.

Versius is a modular, portable surgical robot designed for hospitals and surgical care centers that allows surgeons to perform fully robotic or a combination of robotic and manual laparoscopic procedures.

“After experiencing strong growth, CMR is now the second-largest surgical robotics company on the market with a significant presence across four continents,” Nerseth said in the statement. “I look forward to seeing the company continue to grow so that more hospitals and patients can benefit from minimal access surgery.”

CMR didn’t provide any details on Nerseth’s departure.
